· You should be brushing your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day. Once before you go to sleep and on one other occasion through the day. Most people choose to brush their teeth when they wake up to help rid themselves of ‘morning breath’.
· Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride and be sure to change your toothbrush or electric brush head every three months at least. If you’re using a mouthwash too don’t rinse with the water straight after brushing your teeth. Give the fluoride a chance to work fist, leave it a few minutes before rinsing with mouthwash or water. You might even choose to use your mouthwash after lunch instead.
· When you’re brushing your teeth, the brush head needs to make contact with the teeth and gums at the angle where they meet. When you’re brushing make sure you cover all the areas of the tooth and gum, front, back and the chewing area at the top. Be careful of not brushing too hard.
· Make sure to floss or use interdental sticks or brushes to remove trapped food debris and also remove plaque which can form on the teeth and turn into hard tartar. This in turn can lead to bad breath and gum disease.
If you have on going issues with bad breath despite brushing and flossing regularly then contact us to book a consultation so we can best help to tackle the problem.
