It’s time to sugar swap!

How much sugar is too much?

It’s time to sugar swap!

Do you know the recommended levels of sugar for your child?  The government Sugar Swap for Kids initiative aims to educate people on the ‘safe’ levels of sugar consumption and also arm them with the tools to swap foods to encourage less sugar consumption.

The recommended levels of sugar for children per day are:

4-6 years = 5 cubes or 19 grams

7-10 years = 6 cubes or 24 grams

11+ years = 7 cubes or 30 grams

Most children in England are eating 2800 extra sugar cubes a year – that’s an extra 8 each and every day!

Half of the sugar intake for children comes from sugary drinks, sweets, biscuits, puddings, sugary breakfast cereals and high sugar content yogurts. Swapping to products with less sugar is simpler then you may think.

The Change4Life website has a wealth of information on swapping sugary products as well as a handy sugar calculator which is also available as an app.

Millions of families have already begun making these healthier changes and you can too!
